Washburn County, Wisconsin is host to over 100 miles of scenic, well-maintained ATV trails through the gorgeous, rolling hills of Washburn County.
All of the area trails connect with other area trails, making this the perfect location for an afternoon, a day, or even a week of ATVing.
ATV Trails:
Wild River Trail-The Wild River Trail is a 96 mile trail that follows an abandoned railroad grade. The trail is currently open between Rice Lake and Solon Springs. The trail crosses Washburn County for 40 miles.
Stony Brook (Minong) ATV Trail-The 20 mile long Minong ATV Trail provides a link between the Wild River Trail north of Minong and communities in Sawyer County near Nelson Lake. The trail runs mostly of county forest roads with a 1.5 mile wooded trail connection. Portions of the trails in the Washburn County Forest are closed from to ATV travel from April 1 to May 31.
Trail 39-Trail 39 is a new trail providing a scenic ride through the beautiful Northwoods of Washburn County. This trail meets up with the Wild River Trail near Trego and continues Northeast to connect with the Stony Brook Trail.
Spider Lake ATV Trail-The 8 mile Spider Lake ATV Trail is a loop trail beginning and ending at the Spider Lake Resort near Birchwood. The trail runs primarily through the Washburn County Forest.
Harmon Lake ATV Trail-The Harmon Lake ATV Trail is a 12 mile trail that connects to the Beaverbrook Trail and the Spider Lake Loop system. This trail provides an ATV trail link between Spooner, the Wild River Trail, and the village of Birchwood.
Beaver Brook ATV Trail-The Beaver Brook ATV Trail is a short trail (6.4 miles) which connects the Wild River Trail (Spooner area) to the Harmon Lake Trail.
Tuscobia ATV Trail-A small portion of this 74 mile trail runs through the South-East corner of Washburn County in the Birchwood area. The Tuscobia Trail is open to ATV use from April 15-November 15, from Park Falls to just west of Birchwood.
ATV Usage:
The Washburn County, Wisconsin Forest does allow limited motorized vehicle access on roads and trails within the forest. The Washburn County Forest is split into 30 integrated resource management units, each unit designated as open to motorized travel; open to motorized travel on designated roads and trails; or closed to all motorized travel.
The Washburn County, Wisconsin has 49,000 acres of forest open to motorized travel on all established roads and trails; 78,000 acres of forest with roads open to motorized travel on a two mile density, and 21,000 acres closed to all motorized travel.
Two wheel motorized travel is prohibited on all areas of the Washburn County, Wisconsin Forest. Off trail travel is prohibited, and all motor vehicle travel is prohibited from April 1 to May 31 of each year to protect the forest during periods of high fire danger. The Wild River Trail is open year-round.
